After the news of Pope Francis’ death, the Vatican has made an important announcement that will no doubt disappoint those en route to Rome.
In light of the passing of Pope Francis, the Vatican has announced that the canonization of Blessed Carlo Acutis that was due to take place on April 27th in Rome, will be suspended.
The news of the postponement will no doubt disappoint the young faithful who are already flocking to Rome for the celebration of the millennial saint. In fact the canonization was to coincide with the Jubilee of Adolescents on Divine Mercy Sunday, so thousands of youngsters were looking forward to this celebration.
Since the act of canonization falls under the pontifical magisterium, it cannot be carried out during a period when the Apostolic See is vacant. It will therefore be up to the next pope to set a new date.
While it’s understandable that the death of the pontiff would have significant consequences on all coming events in the Church, hopefully those traveling to Rome can take solace in the fact that they’ll be able to join in the mourning for the much-loved Francis.
